RULEBOOK

All teams and players are expected to know and follow these rules. The League Commissioner's decision is final on all matters not explicitly covered.

Eligibility
Age requirement: All players must be 35 years of age or older as of the first game of the season. Valid photo ID may be requested at any time. Strictly Enforced
Height restriction: All players must be 6'3" or under. Players over 6'3" are ineligible regardless of skill level or position.
Residency: No residency requirement. Players from anywhere may participate as long as they meet age and height requirements.
Ineligible players: Any team found using an ineligible player will forfeit that game. Repeated violations may result in team disqualification.

Team Registration & Rosters
Roster size: Each team may register a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 12 players.
Roster deadline: Final rosters must be submitted 48 hours before the first game. Late additions must be approved by the Commissioner.
Jersey numbers: All players must have a unique jersey number. Two players on the same team may not wear the same number.
Roster additions: Teams may add players to their roster up to Week 3 of the regular season. No additions after Week 3. Deadline
Minimum players to play: A team must have at least 4 players present to avoid forfeit. Games may begin with 4 players.

Game Format & Rules
Game length: Two 20-minute halves with a running clock. Clock stops only in the last 2 minutes of the second half when the score is within 10 points.
Halftime: 5-minute halftime break.
Overtime: If tied at the end of regulation, 3-minute overtime periods are played until a winner is determined. Sudden death in playoffs.
Game time is forfeit time: Teams have a 10-minute grace period from scheduled tip-off. After 10 minutes without 4 players, the game is a forfeit.
Ball: Official NBA size ball (Size 7) provided by the league. Teams may not use their own ball without referee approval.
NBA rules apply unless otherwise specified in this rulebook. Referees have final say on all calls.
Timeouts: Each team receives 2 timeouts per half. Unused timeouts do not carry over. Each team receives 1 timeout in overtime.

Scoring & Stats
Real-time stats: A scorekeeper tracks all stats live. Stats are published to the league website after each game night.
Stats tracked: Points, Rebounds, Assists, Steals, Blocks, and Turnovers per player per game.
Standings points: 2 points for a win, 1 point for an overtime loss, 0 points for a regulation loss.
Stat disputes: Disputes must be raised with the scorekeeper before leaving the gym. No retroactive stat corrections after the following game day. Time Limit

Fouls & Violations
Personal fouls: Players foul out upon committing 6 personal fouls.
Team fouls: Bonus free throws begin on the 7th team foul per half (1-and-1). Double bonus (2 shots) begins on the 10th team foul.
Technical fouls: Issued for unsportsmanlike conduct, arguing with referees, or excessive complaining. 2 technical fouls = automatic ejection. Zero Tolerance
Flagrant fouls: Excessive or dangerous contact results in immediate ejection and possible suspension pending Commissioner review.

Playoffs & Tiebreakers
Playoff format: Top 4 teams after the regular season advance to playoffs. Semifinals (1v4, 2v3) then Championship.
Seeding tiebreaker order: (1) Head-to-head record, (2) Point differential in head-to-head games, (3) Overall point differential (max +/- 20 per game), (4) Points scored, (5) Coin flip.
Playoff overtime: Sudden death — first team to score wins. No time limit.
All players eligible: Players must have appeared in at least 2 regular season games to be eligible for playoff rosters.

Code of Conduct
Respect: All players, coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and spectators must be treated with respect at all times. This is non-negotiable.
Fighting: Any player involved in a physical altercation is immediately and permanently suspended for the remainder of the season. No exceptions. Zero Tolerance
Harassment: Verbal abuse, threats, racist, sexist, or otherwise offensive language toward anyone is grounds for immediate suspension or permanent ban.
Referee disputes: Referees' calls are final. Respectful questions are allowed. Arguing, cursing at, or intimidating referees results in a technical foul.
Alcohol & substances: No alcohol or illegal substances on gym premises. Violations result in immediate removal from the facility.
Facility respect: Players are responsible for keeping the gym clean. All trash must be disposed of properly. Damage to the facility may result in team liability.

Forfeit Policy
Forfeit score: A forfeited game is recorded as a 20-0 loss for the forfeiting team.
Notice required: Teams must notify the Commissioner at least 24 hours in advance if they cannot field a team. Failure to notify may result in a fine or penalty.
2 forfeits: A team that forfeits 2 or more games without notice may be removed from the league without refund.
Reschedules: Rescheduled games are at the Commissioner's discretion and subject to gym availability. No reschedules are guaranteed.

Fees & Refunds
Team fee: $1,150 per team, due upon registration to confirm your spot.
Refund policy: Full refund if the league is cancelled before the first game. No refunds after the season begins. No Exceptions
Withdrawal before season: Teams withdrawing before the roster deadline may receive a partial refund (50%) at the Commissioner's discretion.
Suspended teams: Teams disqualified for conduct violations forfeit their team fee entirely.

Commissioner Authority
Final authority: The League Commissioner has final authority on all matters including rule interpretations, suspensions, eligibility disputes, and scheduling.
Rule amendments: Rules may be amended at any time with 48 hours notice to all teams.
Appeals: Teams may appeal Commissioner decisions in writing within 48 hours. Appeals are reviewed by the YRFH Board and are final.

How do I secure my team's spot?
Submit the registration form on the Register page and send your $1,150 team fee via Venmo, Zelle, or check. Your spot is confirmed once payment is received. Spots are first come, first served.
Can I add players after registering?
Yes — you can add players to your roster up through Week 3 of the regular season. All players must meet the age (35+) and height (6'3" and under) requirements. Contact us to add players.
What happens if we can't make a game?
Notify the Commissioner at least 24 hours in advance. The game will be recorded as a forfeit (20-0). Two or more unannounced forfeits may result in removal from the league without refund.
Are there referees for every game?
Yes — every game has 2 certified referees and a dedicated scorekeeper tracking real-time stats. Stats are published to the league website after each game night.
Can I get a refund if we withdraw?
Full refund if the league is cancelled before it starts. Teams withdrawing before the roster deadline may receive a 50% refund at the Commissioner's discretion. No refunds after the season begins.

Real-time standings and player stats are tracked via the Southbay Hoops stat app — a dedicated player portal with live game tracking, standings, schedules, and per-player statistics.
